Obviously there are tons of ways out there to save money. But to be honest, a lot of them take more work and time than they are worth. Therefore, we decided to compile a list of what we deem the easiest and quickest ways to save a little dough. A lot of them may seem obvious, but ask yourself, as you actually doing these? Don’t worry, you can thank us later.
1. Make your own coffee. Now, it’s obvious that if you are buying a Triple Venti Extra Foam Sugar Free Soy Latte every day, you are going to spend more than if you didn’t. But, what a lot of people don’t think to do is not only make their morning coffee at home, but bring it to work with them for the entire day! Most offices have microwaves, so a reheat shouldn’t be a problem. A lot of us here at Saveology will bring a full Tervis Tumbler of coffee and reheat it throughout the day. Money saved and we look kind of cool.
2. Cook at home. This is yet another obvious one: don’t go out and eat, stay at home, and you will save money. Easy enough. But, what you can do is cook double at night. Then, you have enough for you and yours that night, and then enough to take with you for lunch for the next few days as well. Easy enough and seriously, home-cooked food ALWAYS tastes better than going out.
3. Avoid ATM fees. No one likes to pay ATM fees. No one. So, if that’s the case, why do we always say “well, just this once, its only $2!” and let that happen a few times a month. That kind of thinking can really add up. Even if you can’t find a ATM of your particular branch, most drug stores, supermarkets, etc., offer fee-free cash back. Just buy something you need anyway (gum anyone?) and just use your Debit Card.
4. Use a Library – Not a Bookstore. It seems like reading is starting to come back in style again. Which is great. -no one wants to admit that we are ranked 45th in the world in terms of literacy. But, rather than shelling out $29.99 for the newest in the Twilight Saga, why not check it out for free at your local library? They get the books just as quickly – and did we mention it’s free?
5. Rent, don’t Buy DVDs. There is a temptation to run out the day your favorite Jake Gyllenhaal movie comes out. We understand. But, what many people don’t realize is that same $19.99 could buy THREE months of unlimited DVD rental from sites like Netflix. Now, do you think you can wait 1 day to see your Jakey? We think so.
6. Be Smart At the Supermarket. One of the biggest mistakes people make is going to the grocery store when they are hungry. Big mistake. We can pretty guarantee that you wouldn’t buy the $9.99 box of donuts if you weren’t hungry. So be sure to eat a little something before. Another fun tip is to go when you don’t have a lot of time. If you are in a rush, you will get just what you need and nothing else. Need to be at the dog groomer to pick up Fido at 5pm? Then head to the supermarket at 4:30pm. It may sound silly, but doing this, and going with a list of what you need, will save you a lot of dough.
7. Bundle your Homeservices. Getting your internet from AT&T, cable from Verizon, and home phone from Vonage? While seperately, they may be cheaper than their competitors, when you bundle them with one provider, almost always your total saving will be greater. AND, it’s only one bill to pay. Win-win really. Head over to Saveology to see what savings you can find today.
