More than 5 million jobs have been lost since the recession began in 2007 and with no end in sight for job cuts, this is the time to recession-proof your career.

But how do you do it? The rising costs of tuition, books and miscellaneous fees can really take a toll on your quest to secure or even change careers.

Before you even decide on an educational institution do your research. Don’t go into debt funding your career change. Many organizations offer scholarships with no grade, test score or institutional requirements. Saveology.com for instance, just launched a $5,000 Working Adult Scholarship. All that is required to fill out a short survey. The contest ends August 15, 2009.
